Self Care Routines | Mindy Cullen

March 3, 2017

Last month, we talked all about self-care and how important it is. This month, I'll be featuring successful women and their self-care routines. I am so excited to share this fascinating look at the lives of many women I admire.

In addition to sharing the daily routines of women, I'll be hosting a 31 day self-care challenge over on Instagram. Make sure to check it out and join in. Each day, I'll be sharing one thing you can do to take care of yourself. It's going to be a wonderful way to start off a fresh month, and get ready for our Wake Up Call Retreat in April! I'm so excited to do this with you. Be sure to tag your photos with #31dayselfcarechallenge. I'll pick one photo at the end of the month, and the winner will receive $200 off a ticket to the retreat!

Let's get started. Next up, we have Mindy Cullen. As a certified yoga instructor and a member of Yoga Alliance, Mindy looks to motivate and lead others to discover their true potential on the yoga mat as well as in their lives.

When I used to think of self care, I would feel guilty. I felt like it was selfish to take time away from my busy schedule of being super mom and working to do something that made me feel good.  I believe many people still feel this way, or they feel that its a luxury they don't have money or time for.

Self care doesn't have to be an extravagant day at the spa or a massage, although those can be wonderful ways to relax.

"I believe self care is being mindful of what makes us feel good…mind, body and spirit."

For me, it is slowing down to step out of my crazy day to pause and feel grateful for me and all that surrounds me in this moment.

Beginning with gratitude makes me feel good inside and also reminds me there is something greater than me…that I am not alone.  This provides a sense of comfort.  I found that for me to feel grounded and in-tune with myself I need to be active and move my body.

I began practicing yoga 12 years ago after batttling anxiety and stress.  Learning how to breathe correctly and mindfully as well as building strength and awareness in my body through yoga poses makes me feel good.  Honestly, its as simple as that.  The more I practice yoga and learn new ways to be calm and open up my body, heart and mind,  I feel good and at peace.  I try to practice yoga and meditation in some form daily.  I put it on my schedule as part of my routine, that is, I block out time for myself daily.  My yoga practice comes first!  I schedule everything around it when I can.

I also try to be mindful of how I eat and drink.  Although, I am not perfect at this!   I know that when I eat healthy foods, I feel better.  I try to focus on eating for nutrition rather than calories, etc.  Although, this is not always the case.  In addition, I do not seek perfection.  My goal is to do things for myself that make me feel good, inside and out.  Taking the time for myself daily makes me feel happy and able to support my family and community.

As I've shared before - yoga is a big part of my self-care routine as well! Thank you so much for sharing your journey, Mindy !

Don't forget to head over to Instagram to keep the self-care inspiration going. The challenge is in full swing, but it's not too late to join in on the fun. See you over there!
