We're using this challenge to get ready for our Wake Up Call Retreat in April, which is coming up so soon! PS - there's still time to join us. You totally should. Be sure to join in and tag your photos with #31dayselfcarechallenge - everyone could use a little extra self-care love, right?! I'll pick one photo at the end of the month, and the winner will receive $200 off a ticket to the retreat!
When I think of self-care, I think of things that bring peace to my mind, body and soul. I find taking time for myself helps me stay on track and stay focused on living a more positive lifestyle. Whether it’s a going to the gym and getting a great workout in, or taking some time to travel, taking care of myself is important. I would say my favorite place to really relax is the beach. I love swimming in the ocean, feeling the hot sand underneath me, and breathing in the salty air. Unfortunately, living in New Jersey doesn’t allow me to do this on a daily basis. Even still, I still try to take a few minutes every day to allow myself to breathe and clear my mind.
However, I’m not going to lie, self-care hasn’t been a huge part of my life for a while now. I tend to get so caught up in the busy pace of life. I'll admit that it’s difficult for me to focus on myself and remember what’s truly important. The biggest challenge I face is centering myself. I get so distracted, my mind wanders, and it’s hard for me to stay in touch with myself.
As a manager at Fire Me Up! Studio, a Contemporary Art Studio in Cranford, NJ, I am grateful that I get to dabble in different mediums of art. Art helps me break away and take time to get creative. Painting canvases and throwing on the pottery wheel are probably my top favorites. Although these activities do require lots of patience, there’s a sense of freedom within them that teaches you a lot about yourself.
As for a self-care routine, my goal is to stay focused on taking the time to do things that I love. Self-care begins with loving yourself. Finding true happiness within yourself and figuring out what it is that sets your soul on fire is all a part of the journey. I want to learn how to make self-care my main priority, and not be consumed by what life throws at me. I guess you can say I’m still on the journey of truly finding myself and embracing the importance of self-care in my everyday life.
Thank you so much for sharing your journey, Justine! Wishing you the best of luck in your journey to self-care.
