Fear

fearˈfir/

noun: fear; plural noun: fearsan unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.

Fuck fear.

Yes, I said a bad word...FEAR.

Fear holds us back.

Fear is our worst enemy.

Fear is the thing that keeps us from achieving the wonderful things we are meant to do.

Whether you realize it or not, fear plays a huge role in our decision making process. When we face a new challenge or opportunity, we fear the unknown, disappointment, rejection, and more. Far and away, the one fear I hear the most is fear of failure.  We don’t want to try because we are afraid to fail.  We automatically assume that the worst will happen.  We expect something painful, dangerous, or unstable.

But. What if none of this is true? What if our worst fears never come to life? What if we wait our whole lives for the "perfect" time or opportunity to try something new (spoiler alert - it doesn't exist!) and we never actually do anything? Then, we have lost something far larger, the opportunity to succeed.

That's the risk we take when we let fear guide us, instead of faith - faith in ourselves, in our abilities, in the opportunity we are each given to succeed. If we want to move forward and accomplish great things in this life, the first step is to get our fear under control.

Not all fear is bad. (For instance - that fear that holds us back from jumping out of planes without parachutes - that's good fear!) But fear isn't always so black and white - sometimes it's harder to distinguish if your fear is trying to protect you or just simply hold you back. It is up to us to identify when our fear moves from protecting us to becoming a handicap. We need to identify ways to create a sense of personal control or mastery in our lives. We need to learn techniques, such as meditation or exercise, to help reduce stress and anxiety associated with fear and help shift our focus from negative to positive outcomes in our daily lives. We need to identify and work through our blocks so that we can live the life we were meant to live.

All this month - we will be talking about fear, and how to conquer it. Through a variety of tips and techniques, we'll dive into targeted ways to choose faith over fear, every single day. It won't be easy, but nothing worth doing ever is, right?

Tammie
